This song brings me back to some of my favorite memories growing up. I grew up in the Daisy apartments in San Dimas, CA, which since then has been sold and renamed a few times. Even though, all the families there weren’t rich, we surely new how to have a good time. We had a tight group of friends and we had no worries outside of school & grades, which was easily manageable, so we were always being kids and living our best lives. The daisy apartments are significant to my career as it is where my grinding mentality all started. My Dad managed a gas station and worked 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. I looked forward to Saturdays as I enjoyed hanging out with him at his job. I got to go with him to the gas station and if I was lucky, he would let me work the register for a short amount of time but really, I was there just hanging out. I helped restock all the candies and kept the place clean. My Dad would pay me $5 for helping. He would also take me to all the wholesale candy places to stock up for the gas station. At 8 years old, I saved a little money from helping and some holiday gifts and bought an assortment of candies to sell. In a short amount of time, I had most of the kids in our section purchasing candy from me. The Daisy’s was lit. However, this didn’t last long as word got out to the neighborhood Ice Cream man that I was under cutting his prices and selling candy. One day he was upset so he found our apartment and knocked our door and told my parents that I had negatively impacted his business and what I am doing was illegal as I didn’t have a business license. My parents apologized to him and told me I could no longer do the candy hustle. But I had already made my first $100 and tasted success. My drive was set in, I was going to figure out how to make $$$.

My Favorite Food: Mario’s Pizza aka Pizza Barn in La Verne (Pizza with sautéed mushrooms, ultimate sandwich, & chicken sandwich)
